 Are you good at drawing rangoli? Do you know how to throw a shotput? If not that, is singing your forte?

Mane Mane Dasara Sub-committee, the panel that saw its birth three years ago to take Dasara programmes to the doorsteps of the people has planned array of events for three days from October 16.

Addressing media in the city on Tuesday, Mayor M C Rajeshwari also the chairperson of the sub-committee said five events have been organised for men in different age groups and six for women. For men and women, running race (100 metres and 50 metres) will be conducted in the categories of below and above 14 years to 45 years, and 45 years and above followed by shotput, tug of war, light music in the categories of folk songs, bhavageethe, film songs, debate and mimicry. For men alone Kabaddi is organised, while musical chair and rangoli competitions is organised for women only. Not to ignore the abled among specially-abled people, running race, quiz and singing competitions have been arranged.  Dasara dolls arrangements, a tradition followed since the period of rule of erstwhile wadiyars will also be adjudged for prizes, said corporator M V Ramprasad of the sub-committee.

Deputy mayor Mahadevappa said related sub-committees have been formed at all the nine zones of the city corporation under the leadership of corporators. Assistant commissioners will act as the coordinators. Each of the 65 wards will be allotted Rs 25,000 to organise the events. MCC deputy commissioner and working president of the panel K N Dharmappa said that the first three prize winners will walk away with Rs 500, Rs 300 and Rs 200 in each categories. A major part of the funds is earmarked for prizes only, the officer said.

Revenue officer and member secretary of the sub-committee B Srikantaswamy said that it has been decided to allocate Rs 15 lakh for the panel. The excess amount will be borne by the available funds with the city corporation. Assistant secretary of the sub-committee and MCC PRO Sudha was also present.
