Police inspector suspended


The action was initiated after G Ramesh, DCP, Central Division submitted a report to the Commissioner of Police in this regard. The suspended officer faces eight charges which include inattention towards vehicle thefts, failure to implement court proclamations, disinterest in enforcing the warrants and laxity in preventing and solving robbery cases, among others.

Udaya Bhaskar has also been charged with slackness in implementing the 11:30 pm deadline for closure of hotels and pubs and inaction towards sale of liquor in clubs and dereliction of duty.

During the period of suspension, the officer cannot engage in any private job, but he will be entitled to maintenance allowance. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against him.

Kidnappers held
Three of a nine-member gang, who had kidnapped a first year PU student at BENS College, on September 29 from West of Chord Road have been arrested. Police said the accused hired a car on September 25 on the pretext of touring some places. They stabbed driver Govindan several times, threw him out near Maddur and fled with the vehicle.

They then hatched a conspiracy to kidnap Suraj (16). They picked him up from West of Chord Road when he was returning home on his bike. They demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000 from his father, Rajan. They assaulted Suraj after his father lodged a complaint with the police, and threw him on a road in Peenya II stage before fleeing. Of the nine members one is a woman, police added.

A special team constituted to nab the culprits, arrested Naveen of Magadi Road, Madhu of Pattegarapalya and Ziaull of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar. The remaining six are still at large. The accused are believed to have committed several similar offences, added the police.
