Youth murders father over property row

Prakash, 35, a car driver, allegedly murdered his father, Shanmugappa, 58, a retired BBMP employee and  a resident of Temple Street in Vyalikaval police station limits, early on Wednesday.

Police said Prakash was unemployed and was an alcoholic. He had differences with his father over a property issue.

He was upset that his father was against dividing the properties. Late on Tuesday, he picked a quarrel over the same with his father, and in a fit of anger, allegedly hit him on his head with the axle plate of his car.

Shanmugappa collapsed and died of internal bleeding. When Shanmugappa did not come out of the house till afternoon, neighbours found him lying in a pool of blood and informed the police.

Owned three houses

He is survived by two sons and a daughter, who is married and stays in Vyalikaval.
One of his sons had deserted him and his wife had died long ago. Among the three houses he owned, Shanmugappa had leased out two of them, while he stayed in the third house with Prakash.

The police have launched a manhunt for Prakash.
