The YSR Congress (YSRC) party hierarchy is still not clear how to take the party to the people again even after holding day-long deliberations led by honorary president Y S Vijayamma on Wednesday. Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy may not be coming out of jail before March 2013.

Unable to decide whether party leaders Y S Vijayalakshmi and Sharmila should resume Jagan’s Odarpu Yatra or undertake a padayatra similar to YSR’s Praja Prasthanam, the YSRC had earlier deferred the joint meeting of the central governing council and the executive governing council from Monday to Wednesday.

Party senior leader Konatala Ramakrishna told reporters that a final decision on the subject will be taken after meeting Jagan in the jail on Thursday. “However, the mood of the party is that Sharmila should take over the remaining part of the yatra that her brother Jagan has undertaken, as it will be unfair to trouble Vijayamma to undertake a gruelling exercise like a yatra,” he added.

The YSR Congress wants to exhaust all other options before deciding on padayatra. “Padayatra is like the Brahmastram. Before using it, we will use all other options available to us to be in the public,” party leader Gattu Ramachandra Rao said.

Wednesday’s meet took place amid reports about alleged financial pressure on Jagan’s firms as several of his lenders want their money back. It is learnt that many of the investors are visiting the Lotus Pond residence of the Kadapa MP and bringing pressure on his mother Vijayamma and other family members for repayment of their money. They are reportedly saying that they had gotten into unnecessary trouble because of their financial links with him.
