JOIN USThree alleged Indian Mujahideen terrorists involved in 2012 Pune serial blasts were arrested in New Delhi. They were chalking out plans to carry out terror attacks in Delhi and Bodh Gaya in Bihar during upcoming festivals, police said.
“Three Indian Mujahideen terrorists -- Asad Khan, 33 and Imran Khan, 31 and Sayed Feroz, 38 – were arrested over a period of continuous operation of six days from two different locations in the national capital,” said Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar.
The commissioner said all the three came to the City to carry out terror attack during upcoming festival season.
“They had plans to carry out attack in Delhi and Bodh Gaya in Bihar. We have informed the security agencies in Bihar to beef up security,” said Kumar.
The commissioner said the module was in direct touch with Pakistan-based Riyaz Bhatkal, Iqbal Bhatkal of Indian Mujahideen and Fayyaz Qagzi of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
“During the interrogation of 26/11 handler Abu Jundal, arrested on June 26, we found that the terrorist organisations based abroad were planning to strike in major cities and had drawn up elaborate plans in this regard. During interrogation, Jundal said Qagzi, originally a resident of Beed in Maharashtra and presently living in a West Asian country, was co-ordinating with Bhatkal brothers to carry out terrorist strikes in India. This and other intelligence input led to the arrest of the three”, said Kumar.
Police said Asad Khan of Aurangabad in Maharashtra and Imran Khan belongs of Nanded in Maharashtra were arrested on September 26 from their hideouts at Pul Prahladpur in South Delhi. They had arrived in the Capital on the same day from Roorkee. They carried two rucksacks which contained four kg of explosive material nitrate, eight detonators and other incriminating material. Police also recovered 9-volt batteries, circuits and ballbearings.
During interrogation, police learnt that they came to Delhi on the directions of Bhatkal brothers and Qagzi for carrying out bomb blasts in Delhi. They were received by one Raju Bhai, who had made arrangements for their stay at a rented house in Pul Prahladpur area. Police learnt from them that Raju Bhai is approximately 40-year-old and speaks urdu and hindi with a north Indian accent, said special commissioner of police (special cell), S N Srivastava.
