FKCCI focus is on districts

Last Updated 11 October 2012, 16:16 IST

Karnataka can prosper in totality only if there is development across all districts, said incoming president of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FKCCI) K Shiva Shanmugam on Wednesday. Outlining his goals for FKCCI, he said the focus of FKCCI will be on district development.

Noting that improving agriculture infrastructure is key to promoting agro business in the state, he said, “FKCCI will encourage modern techniques such as contract farming and rain water harvesting,” he said.

“FKCCI will take up these issues with the government so that the existing infrastructure of Bangalore can be further developed to match international standards,” he said.

The contribution of industry to Karnataka’s Gross State Domestic Product hovers around 30 per cent currently, while the share of manufacturing to Karnataka’s GSDP must be raised from the current 17 per cent to 20 per cent, he said.
