Two contrasting views have emerged within the BJP on whether a new president will be appointed to the State unit of the party in the near future.

While the present incumbent K S Eshwarappa claims that he has been asked to continue in the post, besides holding the post of deputy chief minister, Dharwad MP Prahlad Joshi has said that a new person will be appointed to the post within the next 10 days.

Eshwarappa told reporters in Kollur (Kundapur taluk of Udupi district) on Wednesday that he would not comment on the statements made by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

The State BJP leaders would act in accordance with the decision taken by the party’s central leaders with regard to the former chief minister, he said.

On the other hand, Joshi told reporters in Dharwad that the State BJP would have a new chief in the next 10 days and the appointment would be completed once senior BJP leader L K Advani returns from his foreign tour.

Joshi said he was not an aspirant for the post and that the speculation in this regard was only a media creation.
