A class 2 student was raped by a neighbour and another minor stabbed when she resisted sexual assault by her uncle, police said on Friday.
A man stabbed his 11-year-old niece after allegedly trying to sexually assault her at his home in south east Delhi’s Pur Prahladpur area. Accused Amol Singh, 30, had initially fled from the spot, but was arrested at Tuglakabad railway station on Friday morning.
According to police, the incident occurred around 7 pm on Thursday when the girl left her home to fetch some cold water from her uncle’s rented house in Vishwakarma Colony.
“The moment the victim reached his house, the accused — who was in an inebriated condition — locked her inside his room and tried to rape her. When she resisted, he stabbed her thrice with a sharp-edged weapon and fled from the spot,” a police official said.
Her younger brother, who was also coming to Amol’s house, raised an alarm when he saw her lying in a pool of blood. Hearing the commotion, local people rushed to the spot and took her to the AIIMS trauma centre. “Her condition is stated to be critical. We are yet to record her statement,” the official added.
A case of attempt to murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Amol with Pur Prahladpur police station.
“Since the victim is not able to give her statement, only an attempt to murder charge has been lodged. Further charges would be added over her statement,” the official said.
Neighbour rapes
A class 2 student of a government school was raped by her neighbour in west Delhi’s Khayala.
Harpreet Singh Sandhu, 35, was arrested after the girl narrated the incident to her parents. The incident came to light after the girl left home for her grandparents’ house in the neighbourhood on Wednesday morning, but did not reach there.
“Her grandparents drop her to school everyday, but were worried when she failed to turn up on Wednesday,” a police official said.
Her parents then started looking for her and found her crying. She told them that Harpreet had lured her on the pretext of providing her some eatables. He took her to his house and raped her, threatening her of dire consequence if she revealed the incident to anyone.
A case of rape has been lodged after a medical examination at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital confirmed rape.
