Raje terms reports on quitting BJP 'misleading'

Last Updated 19 October 2012, 20:09 IST

Former chief minister of Rajasthan and Leader of Opposition in state Assembly Vasundhara Raje on Friday termed “misleading and baseless” a media report that claimed she is likely to quit the BJP and float her own party before the 2013 state Assembly elections.

The reports had said that Raje is unhappy with the BJP central leaders’ failure to fix the leadership issue in the state. In a statement issued here, Raje said there is no need for her to give a clarification on her and her family’s relationship with the party. She described the report a “political conspiracy” by the Congress and individuals with vested interests.

“They want to harm my image by getting published such misleading and baseless reports against me... I am not going to get perturbed by such reports and neither are such reports going to break a strong party like the BJP,” the statement said.

Referring to the newspaper which carried the report, she said: “It is unfortunate that such a reputed newspaper has joined hands with such people to carry this contemptuous report.”

Earlier in the day, Raje loyalist and party chief whip in the Assembly Rajendra Rathore also refuted the reports which said they (Raje loyalists) were contemplating of floating a party by terming them “unfounded and malicious”.
