Contribute generously, appeals govt

Addressing a joint press conference in Bangalore, Home Minister V S Acharya and Law Minister Suresh Kumar said the crossed account payee cheques or demand drafts may be drawn in favour of “Karnataka Chief Minister’s Relief Fund - Calamity” and handed over personally or sent by post to the Deputy Commissioners of the districts concerned.
The cheques and DDs may also be sent to Bangalore on the following address: Karnataka Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (Calamity), Office of the Chief Minister, Government of Karnataka, Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore-560 001.

Contributions made to the CM’s Relief Fund are eligible for exemption under the Income Tax Act, Acharya said.

The government has also requested the public to join the relief effort by donating new clothes, like dhotis, sarees, shirts, blankets, etc.

The clothes may be deposited in the office of the tahsidlars of the respective taluks or Municipal Commissioners and receipts may be obtained for the same.

Suresh Kumar said a counter will also be opened at the Bala Brooie Guest House in Bangalore to collect the relief material.

The collection counter will function round the clock from Monday.

Meanwhile, the Jain Association has decided to donate 25,000 blankets and sarees for the affected people.
