A comprehensive project blueprint of seven circles in the city that are to be developed, will be prepared within 10 days, said Higher Education Minister C T Ravi.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, he said that Rs 67 crore has been released under the special grant for the development of the district. Of the total amount, Rs 30 crore will be used for taking up developmental work in Chikmagalur city. A blueprint of all the projects will be prepared soon.
It has been decided to develop Adichunchanagiri circle, Hiremagalur circle, Bolarameshwara, Mallandur, Town Canteen and Uppalli circles without affecting the traffic movement and the life of general public. The work will be handed over to the Public Works Department.
Speaking about the development of roads in the city, he said a project blueprint has been prepared on developing the M G Road, I G Road and Ambedkar Road. The cross roads and roads that connect the main roads have been identified. According to the survey, the main roads are at higher level while the cross roads are at a lower level. During the rainy season, the water from the main road flows on the cross roads, damaging them. “Taking note of this, we are contemplating to alter the height of the cross roads and connecting roads,” he said.
Ravi said as the city does not have a comprehensive blueprint, he has directed the officers to prepare a separate blueprint for the city. Meanwhile, suggestions have come to lay interlock bricks in order to avoid the damage of pipelines while developing the cross roads and connectivity roads.
“Houses have been constructed according to the plan at CDA layout and Housing Board layout. But the situation is not the same at Kalidasanagara, Arvindnagara and Gowri Kaluve. These towns are so unplanned that there is no space for the construction of roads,” the Minister confided.
Agreeing that his response to the statements of the Congress District President was harsh, he said he would regret for his harsh words if it had hurt the sentiments of the President. Denying the rumours that he would be shifting his foray from Chikmagalur to Bangalore in the next election, he said he would never quit Chikmagalur constituency.
