Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka said on Saturday that the State government will soon come up with schemes for the welfare of families of police personnel.

Speaking at “Abhimana 2012”, a programme in honour of Karnataka police, Ashoka, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that the government had great respect for the families of police officers — considering the service rendered by the police personnel in the line of duty.
“The welfare schemes are intended to lend moral support to the family of police personnel,” the minister said.

Ashoka said police personnel work round the clock throughout the year at the cost of their personal life. “Despite such dedication and efforts, the police frequently end up being the target of public for wrong reasons . There is a need to cultivate respect for them among commoners,” he said.

Bangalore City Police Commissioner Jyothiprakash Mirji said police personnel were bound to perform their duty to protect people even if they were stoned.
