Rally for declaring coffee as national drink

Coffee Rashtriya Paniya Janandolana forum will organise a bike rally from November 5 to 7, as part of public awareness programme to support the demand to declare coffee as a national drink, said Janandolana co-convenor Kodi Ponnappa.

Speaking to mediapersons on Monday, he said that the demand for coffee in the international market would escalated by branding coffee as Indian national drink. It would help not only help coffee growers and also the coffee plantation labourers.In order to create public awareness , several meeting were convened in the district and the people have responded well.

“We have submitted a memorandum to the Central government on behalf of the coffee growers of Chikmagalur, Hassan and Kodagu, demanding to brand coffee as a national drink. All the three districts will support the campaign.” The campaign will kickstart at Kakkabe on November 5 at 10 am. The rally will pass via Napoklu, Murnadu, Parane, Cheyyandane, Kadanga, Chenchebellur, Virajpet, Gonikoppa, Ponnampet, Hudikere, T Shettigeri and reach Irpu temple at Srimangala, said Ponnappa.

On November 6, the campaign will leave Kutta at 10 am and reach Pushpagiri via Nalkeri, Kanur, Balele, Ponnappasanthe, Mayamudi, Devarapura, Thithimathi, Palibetta, Ammatthi, Siddhapura, Kushalangar and Somwarpet. On November 7, the rally will leave Pushpagiri at 10 am and travel to Thakeri, Madapura, Suntikoppa, Madikeri, Bettageri, Cherambane, Chettimani, Bhagamandala and Talacauvery.
