The Karnataka government has extended the deadline for schools to register under the Right to Education (RTE) Act to November 30, 2012.
For the purpose of ensuring admissions under the 25 per cent quota for students from economically weaker sections under the RTE , all schools were directed to register themselves.
The government had earlier fixed October 31 as the last date for schools to register. However, with many of the private managements refusing to provide the reservation, questioning the validity of the provision under the Act, the government was forced to extend the deadline.
A few of the private schools have filed a writ petition in the court on the issue. Hence, they had demanded that the government extend the deadline till further orders from the court.
