6 government officials land in Lokayukta net

The Lokayukta police on Thursday conducted raids in 21 places across Karnataka to unearth illegal assets possessed by six government officials and a public servant.

The raids were conducted in Bangalore, Bijapur, Chamarajanagar, Davangere, Ranebennur, Kolar and Mysore districts.  Searches continued till Thursday evening as bank lockers and documents of the officials were still being scrutinised.

A huge haul was found at the two premises of L Raghu, executive engineer with National Highways in Bangalore. Police have seized documents pertaining to two houses in RPC Layout and Magadi Road worth Rs 56.6 lakh, a commercial complex in KHB Colony, Dasarahalli worth Rs 76.87 lakh, three sites in Bangalore and one in Mysore. The police also found 2.7 kg of gold, 20 kg of silver and three cars.

In another raid, the police searched the premises of Vijayanama Maralingappa Chour, Chief Accounts Officer, Bijapur Zilla Panchayat, who was found to possess 1.5 kg of gold worth Rs 50 lakh, two cars in his son’s name, two houses in Bijapur, a 13-acre agricultural land and two plots. Police are still scrutinising the bank accounts and lockers. Criminal cases under Prevention of Corruption Act have been filed against all the seven officials.
