<p>The husband of a Congress councillor, who was found dead along with her 18-month-old daughter, has been arrested over allegations of dowry harassment, police said on Friday. Pawan Yadav has been sent to police custody till November 23.<br /><br />The 28-year-old Municipal Corporation of Delhi schoolteacher was held after Satyam Yadav, 26, and daughter Vanshika were found dead at their house in west Delhi’s Nangloi on Thursday.</p>.<p>Satyam, elected to the North Delhi Municipal Corporation from Nangloi east, had married Pawan in 2010, and was living with her father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law in a two-storey house.<br /><br />“Pawan was arrested late on Thursday and was produced before a court. He was sent in 14-day police custody,” a senior police official said.<br /><br />A case under sections 304-B (dowry death), 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 302 (murder of child) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Pawan and his family members.</p>.<p>Satyam was found hanging at her house at 7.30 am. Her one-and-a-half-year old daughter’s body was found on the bed in the same room. The child had been strangled.<br /><br />Satyam’s elder brother Prashant Yadav, a New Delhi Municipal Council schoolteacher, claimed that his sister was constantly harassed for dowry, and was also made to suffer because she gave birth to a girl child. He alleged that Satyam’s in-laws were demanding Rs 10 lakh and a Honda City car. Her father-in-law Lalaram denied the allegations, and claimed she showed no signs of stress. “We have never ill-treated her,” he said.<br /><br />Police said the woman did not leave a suicide. Police are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain Vanshika’s cause of death.<br /><br />Locals claimed that they heard a heated argument between Satyam and Pawan on Wednesday night. But Pawan told police that he slept with his mother on the first floor as she was not feeling well.<br /></p>
