Raksha J Urs, the Mysore woman accused of cheating investors to the tune of Rs 500 crore along with her husband Ulhas Khaire and arrested by the Delhi police recently, was allegedly deserted by her parents and close relatives.

A relative told Deccan Herald that when Raksha’s parents Jayashankar Urs and Maya Doddammanni parted ways, she was in high school. At that tender age, she managed to find a part-time job as an assistant to an event manager who also provided her free accommodation near her school. With the little money she earned, she paid her school fees promptly, the relative said.

Whenever she found time, she visited a distant relative and “most of the time, she was brooding over her past, cursing her parents and her relatives for dumping her,” the relative said. Another person, who knew Raksha as a student of photo journalism at Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts in the city, said she always used to share stories about her bad past with her friends.

Raksha’s mother Doddammanni, who ran a canteen on Kalidasa Road, was a resident of Dewan’s Road in Lakshmipuram known for its Ursu bungalows.

Father no more

Her father is said to have died after walking out on her mother. Doddammanni later married another man outside her community and is believed to be settled in Bangalore.
