A cement laden truck fell off a bridge at Nagarabhavi killing its driver on the spot on Thursday evening.

The driver has been identified as Ravi Kauti Ekanthaiah, 25. The seriously injured cleaner of the truck, B C Shivamurthy, 30, has been admitted to a private hospital.

According to the police, Ravi lost control of the vehicle and it hit an electric pole first. It then landed on the service road below with the driver’s cabin hitting straight to the ground, said the police.

The truck was on its way to Mysore from Bellary when it fell off the bridge at Nagarabhavi around 8.45 pm.

Ramesh R, a resident, told Deccan Herald that he and his family members heard a loud noise when they were watching television. When they came out of the house, they saw the truck crashed in front of their house.

“The cleaner had managed to jump out. Though he sustained severe injuries on his right arm, he is out of danger. We immediately took him to a nearby hospital,” Ramesh added.

“It took us 90 minutes to retrieve the driver’s body and we had to use a crane to lift the truck,” said a policeman on the spot. Ravi’s body has been taken to Victoria Hospital.
