RTI activist assaulted

An RTI activist, B Ramakrishnappa, 50, sustained severe injuries after two men attacked him with clubs on Friday morning in Vijayapura.

He has been admitted to government hospital and is recovering, said the police. The bike-borne attackers had masked their faces. The assault took place around 8.30 am.

Ramakrishnappa had obtained documents about the alleged corruption at Godlu Muddenahalli Gram Panchayat and had released them to media recently. “I don’t know who attacked me.

I had demanded action against those responsible for corruption at the panchayat. Some people were upset about this,” he told Deccan Herald.

A farmer by profession, Ramakrishna became an RTI activist in 2009 and he had been exposing scams in government offices.
