Ignore emails on I-T refunding, says govt

“Our advice is that if you receive such emails, ignore them ,” the CBDT  spokesperson told Deccan Herald. “The Income Tax department does not send emails regarding refunds and does not seek any information regarding credit cards of taxpayers,” he said. People have been receiving electronic mails informing them of their I-T refunds while seeking their credit card details. If taxpayers respond to such mails, it would be at their own risk, he said.

Presently, the I-T department disburses refunds in two ways— through cheques sent directly to people who are entitled for refunding and through Refund Bankers Scheme (RBS).

The RBS is operationalin six cities—Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Patna. “In these six cities, the I-T department remits the refund through the RBS as well as physical delivery of cheques through the SBI.
