JOIN USUP ex-chief secy gets 3-year jail
Former Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Neera Yadav was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on Tuesday in the Noida land allotment case by a special CBI court in Ghaziabad.
Senior IAS officer and former deputy chief executive officer of Noida Authority Rajiv Kumar was also given a three-year jail term in the case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the two. The CBI court had in another matter pertaining to illegal allotment of a plot of land in Noida already sentenced Neera Yadav to four years’ imprisonment in 2010.
Neera and Kumar had been charged with allotting several plots of land in Noida to themselves and others in violation of the rules. Neera was then the CEO of Noida Authority.
She had also allegedly allotted plots to her two daughters. The CBI had filed two charge sheets in the matter.Neera had spent a few months in jail after being convicted by the court in 2010. She was later enlarged on bail.Considered to be a powerful official, Neera had been appointed chief secretary of UP in 2005 when Mulayam Singh Yadav was the chief minister. She had to be removed on the orders of the Supreme Court following charges of corruption against her.
The Uttar Pradesh IAS Association had once chosen her as the “most corrupt bureaucrat” in a secret ballot.
