SC notice to AERB, NPCIL on safety at Kudankulam

The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) and Nuclear Power Corporation India Limited (NPCIL) to file an affidavit about steps taken to implement the safety measures in Kudankulam Nuclear plant.

The court which is hearing the case also said that it would direct the government to comply with the Convention on Nuclear Safety (which India has ratified) which mandates an independent safety regulator.

It may be noted that on Tuesday, the apex court had slammed the Tamil Nadu government for taking nuclear safety lightly and not taking steps to implement disaster management guidelines.
