'Conserve natural resources for future'

 Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah said there is a need to conserve natural resources for the future generations.

He was speaking at the state-level 20th children’s science convention organised by the Rajya Vijnana Parishat, district administration, zilla panchayat and education department here at St Joseph Girl’s Composite High School recently.

He said: “We are facing shortage of fuel. Due to shortage of electricity, we may face difficulty in supplying drinking water in the future. The resources should be utilised judiciously. There is a need to make use of alternative sources of fuels also.”
The citizens should conserve environment, he said.

District in-charge minister Appachu Ranjan said the students should develop scientific temperament and create models which will help solve the problems in the future. “The students should achieve success in the state and national-level science competitions,” he said.

Karnataka State Bio-Fuel Development Board chairman Y B Ramakrishna said there is a need to innovate alternative sources of energy. “The wind and solar energy should be used effectively,” he said.

Rajya Vijnana Parishat president Dr H S Niranjan Aradhya said the national-level science convention will be held at Varanasi on December 27. The winners at the state-level competition will take part in the national-level contest.

Save fuel

The students presented various papers on conserving fuels.
Presenting a paper, Bairadevarakoppa Government Primary School student Mallesh Gowda said there is a need to conserve fuel. He presented a paper entitled ‘Oduva Khali Bus, Indana Loss.’

Kumta Nirmala High School student Sridhar Hegde said by utilising renewable resources, one can conserve the environment and also avoid mining activities.

Sirsi Sonda Mathadevi Alva School student Chandana Shastri said there is a need to accord priority to alternative sources of energy and fuels.

The students from Sri Shivabasaveshwara High School, Bailahongala, demonstrated generation of energy from cow dung.

Deputy commissioner Dr N V Prasad, zilla panchayat president B Shivappa, Hatti Gold Mines Company managing director A K Monnappa spoke on the occasion.
