Last Updated 27 November 2012, 14:37 IST

A police sub-inspector on probation was today arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) here for allegedly demanding Rs 30,000 as bribe from a college student, police said.

Mangesh Andhare, attached to Kamptee police station, was apprehended by ACB sleuths even though the agency could not trap him as he sensed the presence of its officials at the police station.

Explaining the case, an ACB official said Andhare demanded Rs 50,000 from one Avvan Ahmed, a first year student of a local college, for not filing a complaint against the latter after he was spotted loitering suspiciously outside Kamptee police station on November 20.

According to ACB, Andhare settled for Rs 30,000 from Ahmed and was to accept the amount today at the police station. However, the PSI sensed that a trap was being laid for him and refused to accept the same.

He was however held under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and will be produced in court tomorrow, ACB said.
