Jagan's bail plea rejected

Last Updated 28 November 2012, 16:50 IST

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court here on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of  YSR Congress chief and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy in the
disproportionate assets case.

This was Jagan’s second bail plea in the CBI court. An earlier petition was dismissed by the CBI Court on June 1 on grounds that he could influence the witnesses. On October 5, the Supreme Court too had dismissed his bail application but directed the CBI to speed up the investigation.

A bench of justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai ruled that Jagan can apply for bail only after the CBI completes its investigation in all the seven other cases lodged against him.

The CBI opposed Jaganmohan Reddy's latest bail plea saying that the move ran contrary to the directive of the Supreme Court to him to file such a plea only after the filing of the final charge sheet in the disproportionate assets case. CBI deputy legal advisor B Ravindranath told the court that this could as well be seen as contempt of court.

The Kadapa MP is  presently lodged in the Chanchalguda Central Prison here since his arrest on May 27 by the CBI on charges of amassing wealth.
