Banker lost her deposit

Last Updated 16 May 2009, 18:47 IST

The chairperson and chief executive of ABN Amro Bank in India, Meera lost her security deposit from Mumbai South, where she stood fifth after the Congress, MNS, Shiv Sena and BSP candidates.

No miracle could propel her chances, let alone bring her victory. She bagged 10,157 votes, which are less than 10 per cent of the votes got by the winning candidate Milind Deora. He got 2,72,411 votes.

Meera, who ran a clean and issue-based campaign as an independent, will return to her position of the bank on Monday ( May 18), but apparently she has not given up on politics, which has taught her many a thing. “We have opened the doors for honest and experienced professionals and citizens to enter public life and will work towards getting the country back on track,” Meera said in a statement after her defeat.
