After raising public expectations for more subsidised cooking gas cylinders, the Oil Ministry has now lobbed the ball in the Finance Ministry’s court, saying it can provide nine subsidised LPG refills instead of six this year only if an additional Rs 3,000 crore is sanctioned by the Finance Ministry.

But, the Finance ministry has, however, stopped short of making any commitment on the issue.

Sources in Petroleum Ministry said Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily met Finance Minister P Chidambaram on the issue of raising the cap from six cylinders to nine in a year to every household.

The minister also met with the chiefs of state-run oil companies on the issue after widespread public demand to enhance the limit.
