A bailable warrant was issued by a local court here against a former Uttar Pradesh minister to ensure his presence in the court to depose as a prosecution witness in the nine-year-old murder case of his father.

Additional district sessions Judge R P Singh on Wednesday issued warrant against Yograj Singh, a Bahujan Samaj Party leader, after he failed to appear before the court despite repeated summons.

The court directed SSP Muzaffarnagar to execute the warrant on Yograj to appear before the court on December 13 for cross examination in connection with the case.

Yograj is an eyewitness and complainant in the murder of his father and Congress leader Choudhry Jagbir Singh. Jagbir was shot dead at Ahlawalpur village in September 2003. A case was registered against three persons, including Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Naresh Tikait. Two of the accused have died during the course of hearing of the case.
