Mum TP officials taken to task

Last Updated 01 December 2012, 18:02 IST

Kannada Jagruthi Samiti representative T P Ramesh recently used the Kodagu Zilla Panchayat KDP monthly meeting as a platform to raise various issues pertaining to distribution of sites and electrification in the district and asked for a proper response from the authorities.

When the issue of residential sites distribution was raised, the Taluk Panchayat executive officers of Madikeri, Virajpet and Somwarpet did not furnish the needed information.

Intervening, Ramesh questioned as to why it takes long time to transfer title deeds from the Revenue Department to the Panchayats, when both are part of the government. The officers had no answer to the question.

He also took Cesc officers to task for only giving assurances in every meeting on implementation the Central government’s Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electricity Scheme. “The issue is discussed in every meeting, but nothing happens.

“There has been an inordinate delay in implementing the scheme in the district,” he criticised.

He also expressed concern over the English name boards coming up in various parts of the district, ignoring Kannada.

Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer K B Anjanappa took deputy director of Public Instructions Basavaraju to task for not furnishing statistics of school drop-outs in the district.

Surprisingly, Zilla Panchayat president B Shivappa, who assumed office two months ago, remained silent throughout the meeting, except for raising voice against the authorities for delaying the work.

He told the officers that with only four months remaining for the end of this financial year, the responsibility was on the officers to ensure that work is implemented.
