The personal security officer of sacked Uttarakhand Minorities Commission chairperson Sukhdev Singh Namdhari was arrested, and two of his musclemen were also detained for criminal conspiracy in the gunfight between Ponty Chadha and Hardeep Chadha, police said on Monday.

Namdhari’s personal security officer Sachin Tyagi, 27, a constable of Uttrakhand Police, was arrested on Monday here for his alleged role in the conspiracy that led to the murder of Hardeep Chadha, said deputy commissioner of police (crime) SBS Tyagi.

Sachin is charged with criminal conspiracy. Police said Sachin unauthorisedly came to Delhi with Namdhari, and illegally used his official weapon to fire at Hardeep Chadha.
Sachin joined Uttrakhand Police as a constable in 2005, and was attached with Namdhari as his PSO since January this year.

On Sachin’s role, the police officer said he allegedly gave false statements to investigators and helped in destroying evidence. “Namdhari himself was in possession of a 0.30 bore pistol, but he did not have a valid licence for bringing the weapon to Delhi,” said the officer.

The officer claimed that Namdhari gave the gun — the one that he used to shoot Hardeep — to Sachin. “Then Sachin handed over the weapon to Sonu, who in turn gave it to another person, Satnam. Sachin knew that this was important evidence, but he helped Namdhari,” said the officer.

Musclemen detained

A special team of the crime branch detained two musclemen from Uttar Pradesh, who were involved in the incident.

“Two more persons related to the Chadha brothers murder case have been detained and are being questioned for their alleged role in the incident. They are likely to be arrested after a proper investigation,” said a senior police officer, adding that it is too early to prove their role in the case.

The two are Namdhari’s associates, and they played a major role in trespassing at south Delhi’s 42 Central Drive at Chhattarpur on November 17, where the Chadha brothers were killed.

However, police are still investigating whether Namdhari shot both the Chadha brothers, or he fired only at Hardeep. “We are investigating each and every angle and Namdhari’s role is suspicious in the whole gunbattle,” said the police officer.

Earlier, police had arrested Namdhari on charges of murder, while six others were arrested on charges of trespassing, kidnapping and looting. Investigators are waiting for the ballistic report that will confirm the type of weapon and bullets used in the gunfight.
