Draft reservation list for ULBs notified

The Karnataka government on Tuesday notified the draft list of reservation of wards for various categories for holding elections to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), including seven city corporations.

The census data of 2001 has been utilised for drawing up the list as the 2011 census figures will be notified only in March 2013.

The term of most of the 209 ULBs and the seven city corporations will end by February-March next year.

50 per cent reservation

According to the guidelines issued for drawing up the list, reservation for women has been increased from 33 per cent to 50 per cent.

 The reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has been arrived at on the basis of their population, it said. The list has been uploaded on the website www.uddkar.gov.in

Objections

Objections, if any, need to be filed within seven days. The State Election Commission had moved the High Court of Karnataka, seeking a direction to the government to provide the list of reservation of wards to facilitate the election process.

The court had directed the State government to complete the process at the earliest.
