Jamia law students held for assaulting teenager

Four law students of Jamia Millia Islamia have been arrested for gang raping a 16-year-old girl at a house in south Delhi’s Defence Colony.

Pulkit Chaudhary, Amandeep, Sharad Shekhar Tomar and Rupansoo were held on Monday. According to police, an investigation was taken up after the victim’s mother approached Defence Colony police station.

“She reported that her daughter, a class 11 student, had not returned home after attending school on September 15,” a police official said.

Initially, a case of kidnapping was lodged. However, there was no trace of the girl and no call for ransom was made to her family at Sadiq Nagar.

On November 29, the girl met a constable and told him that she had been kept confined at a house in Defence Colony. The constable took her to a lady constable, to whom the teenaged rape victim narrated her trauma in chilling detail.

“She claimed that she had fled from home with a friend named Amit and had been
living with him at a flat in Defence Colony, but he ditched her after some time,” the official added.

The victim continued to stay at the flat, where one of the accused later met her posing as a policeman.

The man was their neighbour and threatened her of police action for over the live-in arrangement.

Confined her

He then took her to his house and raped her. He kept her confined there and later his friends took turns to sexually assault her.

The victim claimed that she was abused and beaten up on a regular basis, but managed to escape late in November.

On the basis of her statement, police conducted a raid at the flat and nabbed Pulkit, Amandeep, Sharad and Rupansoo.

They were produced before Saket court on Monday and sent to two day’s in police custody. Police had sought their custodial interrogation to make more arrest in the case.
