The State Cabinet on Monday gave its nod for renaming Nemmadi Kendras (telecentres) as Vajpayee Janasnehi Kendras and re-launch them on December 25, on the occasion of the birthday of former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.

The government recently took over 800 telecentres from the private agency operating them.
The Revenue department has set up new offices and necessary infrastructure facilities for these centres, which act as one-stop-shop for people to avail a number of services like caste certificate, income certificate, birth and death certificates, and farmers' certificate.

It was the first Cabinet meeting at Suvarna Soudha, the second secretariat building of the State. As the legislature session was on, the media was not briefed about the Cabinet decisions.

Besides, the Cabinet decided to seek legal opinion on tabling the controversial report on encroachment of Wakf properties in the State, in the Assembly. State Minorities Commission Chairperson Anwar Manippady had in his report alleged that Wakf properties worth nearly Rs two lakh crore have been encroached upon.

He had also alleged a large number of senior politicians belonging to the minority community had encroached the properties.
