Last Updated 12 December 2012, 17:04 IST

Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) rallied to hold title contenders Madras Engineer Group (MEG) 1-1 in the BDFA Super Division league at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Wednesday.

With this, MEG have five points from three matches, while RWF increased their tally to four from three matches.

RWF had the better of exchanges in the first half. They made a promising start to the match and it took Sappers’ custodian Sharat Narayan’s charge from the line to thwart Kavi Arasu in the eight minute. RWF did not have the rub of the green going their way when a powerful strike by Regin from the edge of the box ricochetted off the right post in the 15th minute.

A couple of minutes later, Prakash’s long-ranger flew wide off the target as MEG lived a rather charmed life. The Sappers took the lead against the run of play in the 42nd minute. A fine through ball by Jiten from the right wing saw Nguernilal unmarked in the rival box and he easily beat goalkeeper Dilip Kumar.

RWF drew level just five minutes into the second session through a well-crafted goal. Vijay passed to Kavi Arasu in the left wing and the latter got the better of two defenders to enter the penalty area. His perfect pass found Deepu who buried the ball into the roof of the net.

The Sappers missed a fine chance in the 65th minute as Nguernilal failed to hit the target from the top of the D.

Regin’s volley from just outside the box was deflected away for a corner-kick two minutes from time and it proved to be the last real chance of the match.

Earlier, AGORC scored a 2-1 win over Bangalore Mars in the A Division. Stalin put Mars ahead in the 25th minute. But, AGORC drew level in the 52nd minute through Muralidharan and a diving header by Lokman Singh in the 76th minute earned them full points.

Thursday’s matches: A Division: SAI vs BUFC (1.00 pm). Super Division: HASC vs South United (3.00 pm)
