The State Cabinet on Thursday empowered Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to take appropriate steps to set right anomalies in the ward reservation list prepared for conducting elections to urban local bodies (ULBs) in the State.

Speaking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Law and Parliamentary Minister S Suresh Kumar said the government has received 2,318 objections against the draft reservation list published on December 4.

Several MLAs  too had raised objections against the list in the Assembly. Hence, the chief minister will consult the Advocate General and take appropriate measures, he added.

The Karnataka High Court recently directed the government to prepare and finalise the ward reservation list before December 17, to enable the State Election Commission to conduct the elections as scheduled in February 2013. As the 2011 census figures were not yet finalised, thegovernment prepared the list based on 2001 census figures.
