Domestic help held for stealing Rs 67L

A domestic help was arrested for theft of cash and jewellery worth Rs 67 lakh from his employer’s house in north-west Delhi’s Model Town, police said on Thursday.

Santosh Kumar Yadav, 25, who hails from Jharkhand, was held at Shastri Park Metro station on Wednesday. Jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh and Rs 5.42 lakh in cash were recovered from his possession.

“Santosh revealed that he had planned to buy a house in Hazari Bagh. Further efforts are on to recover remaining cash,” said P Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police (north-west).

An investigation was taken up after Derawal Nagar-resident Ajay Bhatia informed police that jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh and Rs 17 lakh in cash were stolen from his house on early hours of December 5.

None of the almirah locks were found broken which had put Santosh under suspicion. The family neither had Santosh’s complete name and address nor had submitted servant verification form to police.

A police team conducted raids at various places in Delhi. “The name and address of the alleged domestic help was ascertained after interrogating over 50 people,” Karunakaran added.

The team was sent to Jharkhand. After conducting several raids, cops found that Santoshwas hiding in the Capital.
