A 30-year-old maid has been arrested by the Yelahanka New Town police on the charge of stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh from a house where she was employed.
Manjula, who hails from Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, was detained for questioning by the police after her employer, Dr Srikanth Reddy, lodged a complaint that gold ornaments were missing from his house in Puravankara Apartments, a police source claimed.
The maid, the source further said, confessed to “stealing” 370 gm gold jewellery at Reddy’s house over the past three months of her employment. She had kept the stolen jewellery with her relatives, the source quoted Manjula as saying. Manjula, according to police, wanted to start life afresh with her live-in partner after leaving her first husband. Police have claimed to have recovered the stolen jewellery.
