<p>The coming season promises to be a bounty of mango in the district.Following the decrease in the yield of the crop this year, the department of horticulture and farmers have taken extra care to ensure better harvest in the next season. <br /><br /></p>.<p>As a prelude to this the department has planned training programme to create awareness among the farmers.<br /><br />The district has over 1,250 mango growers cultivating the fruit on 3,517 hectares of land. To see to it that nothing goes wrong from beginning to end, the department intends to give farmers further knowledge on management of pests and diseases.<br /><br />December is flowering season and owing to cold during the same period, the mango flowers will be hit by ‘boodhi roga’ and also pests.<br /><br /> If no action is taken to check the same, no doubt it will harm its growth. <br />As a precautionary measure, before the flower blossoms and takes shape of fruit, it is better advised to spray carboryl of four grams, endosulfan (two MM), emidaclofrid (0.5 ML) after mixing with every one litre of water. The medicine should be repeated whenever the situation warrants. <br /><br />Special training<br /><br />To ensure healthy fruit to the mango lovers, the department also wants to introduce the growers to the method of ripening the fruit without using any chemical powder.<br /> The department has evinced interest to organise a demonstration programme for the benefit of farmers. <br /><br />To ease the burden on the farmers in the form of expenditure on pesticide, the department also extends 50 per cent subsidy on the pesticide per hectare of crop. <br />The farmers have to produce relevant documents like- bill, RTC and bank account to avail subsidy.<br /><br />Deputy director of horticulture H M Nagaraj told Deccan Herald, like previous year, Mango Mela at Curzon Park has been planned for the coming season too.<br /> Besides, counters will be opened on Mysore- Bangalore and Mysore- Hunsur road providing direct sales opportunity for the farmers and also enable mango lovers get quality fruit.<br /></p>
