The Lokayukta Court on Saturday granted bail to Kumari Avvayi, the Congress corporator from Sudhamanagar who was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the owner of a small hotel in Kalasipalya.

Judge N K Sudhindra Rao directed the accused to furnish a bond for Rs one lakh along with two sureties.

The court said that the accused must not terrorise the prosecution witness and must not leave the State without the permission of the court.

The nephew of the corporator was also arrested during the trap by the Lokayukta police.
The accused have been directed to appear before the investigation officer between 10 am and 11 am every Monday and sign the register.

Bail terms

The court warned that threatening or coming into contact with the complainant and his family members or any kind of violation will be dealt with strictly.

The counsel for the accused was at the receiving end during the hearing, when he submitted that the Lokayukta police trap was politically motivated.

“The complainant has closed his shop. Why would he go into hiding if he had political connections?,” the court asked, and refused to buy the argument.

Channegowda, the complainant, had stated that Avvayi was extorting Rs 500 from him every month.
