Roads in Trans Yamuna are set to get a facelift as the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has identified some 120 stretches to install state of-the-art toilets, litter bins, multi-purpose kiosks and street benches.

The move aims to provide better civic amenities to residents as well as a uniform look to roads in east Delhi. A similar exercise was taken up in New Delhi areas ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

The objective of the project, which will be executed on a public-private partnership model, is to install ‘street furniture’ — fancy benches, public convenience, advertisement and information panels for five years.

The areas that will benefit include Trilokpuri, Kichripur Road, Vasusndhra Enclave, Ghazipur, Mayur Vihar, Jhilmil and Dilshad Garden. “Different kinds of street furniture will be installed in the vicinity of all major markets and other landmarks as required,” said a senior corporation official.

“For example, if certain markets see heavy footfall and lack public convenience, they will get more such facilities,” said the official.

As per the plan, a total of 527 fancy benches, 486 dustbins, 64 public convenience, 107 multi-purpose kiosks, 287 advertisement panels and 528 information panels will be installed across east Delhi.

The standing committee of the East Corporation cleared the proposal on Thursday. The bidding process will start soon.

Officials said it will also increase the revenue of the civic agency. “Since the project will be implemented on design, build, own, operate and maintain basis, the entire cost and maintenance of the project will be borne by the concessionaire,” an official said.

“The company will have to pay a reserve amount of Rs 1 crore per month to the corporation.”

The concessionaire will generate revenue by displaying advertisements at all the installations. It will get the contract for five years, which can be extended for three years.
