LIC get the better of Sappers

Life Insurance Corporation continued their good run in the third phase of the inaugural edition of the Karnataka Volley League, defeating Madras Engineer Group 25-15, 18-25, 25-15, 25-18 at the Municipal grounds here on Monday.

LIC now have six points from two matches while the Sappers crashed to their second defeat of the third phase and are yet to get off the mark. 

On Sunday, LIC put it past Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 to start their campaign on a strong note.

In Monday’s match, LIC, comprising the experienced Sree Shekar and MN Vikram, raced to a 12-8 lead in the first set. The duo troubled the MEG blockers with their smashing prowess and were also joined by Dinesh Vikram in piling on the opposition’s misery as they pocketed the opening set 25-15.

MEG pulled up their socks in the second set with Chethan fetching them majority of the points. Having taken the lead at 15-12, MEG maintained their stranglehold over LIC to claim the set 25-18. 

In the third set, LIC’s Avinash Shetty tormented the defence team with his power-packed smashes to help his team bag the set comfortably at 25-15. Shetty and MN Vikram kept the momentum up in the fourth set as well as LIC wrapped up proceedings without breaking a sweat, taking the set and match at 25-18.

In other matches held on Sunday, first phase winners Army Service Corps (ASC) beat MEG 25-14, 25-18, 25-14 while second phase victors Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) downed Karnataka State Police (KSP) 21-25, 25-16, 28-26, 27-25.
