Leased out BBMP properties under scanner

Last Updated 17 December 2012, 20:13 IST

The BBMP properties leased out either at a throwaway price or used in violation of norms have come under the scanner.

On Monday, Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy cracked the whip against the lessees when he carried out an inspection of such properties on Queen's Road and Jasma Bhavan in the East zone of the BBMP. He directed the officials to prepare a list of leased out properties.

During the inspection, he learnt that the lessees were paying a pittance to the Palike. Subsequently, he directed the officers to rationalise the rent or lease on a par with the market rates.

Murthy inspected Urs Association, Prakash Padukone Badminton Association, Indian Council of Social Welfare, Karnataka State Billiards Association and found that the lease agreements were violated.

The officials accompanying him apprised him that the rent and lease amount of 35 properties, which were leased out in 1975 for a longer period, were never revised.

The Mayor directed the officials to launch a drive against those who have transgressed the lease conditions and violated the building plan by constructing beyond the permitted level.
