The Dalita Sangharsha Samiti (DSS), on Monday, urged the Karnataka government to file an appeal before the Supreme Court and seek a stay on shifting of Dr B R Ambedkar’s statue installed in front of the Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore.
“The High Court’s order is arbitrary and one sided. Ambedkar’s statue in front of the Vidhana Soudha is a symbol of pride and self-respect for millions of dalits, oppressed and downtrodden.
Hence, we demand the State government to allow one person from each of the dalit organisations in the State to implead as a respondent in the appeal before the Supreme Court. This will help us to express our opinion in the larger interest of millions of dalits,” stated a press release issued by the DSS.
Members of the DSS have threatened to launch a State-wide agitation if the State government fails to appeal before the apex court.
