We will continue development work in Afghanistan: Krishna

Last Updated 10 October 2009, 19:36 IST

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Krishna said Afghanistan was facing a grim situation.

“We hope that the Afghan government will provide additional protection to the Indian missions. We have already been doing substantial work and the people of India are willing to go to the rescue of the Afghan people,” he said.

On the Afghan’s government’s statement that Pakistan’s ISI is involved in the attack and why India refused to confirm it, Krishna maintained: “Why do they need confirmation of the Government of India? They would be the best judges. They would have reached their conclusion based on strong inputs from their intelligence sources.”

On whether the matter would be taken up with Pakistan, Krishna said during his meeting with Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi at the UN General Assembly session in New York last month, Qureshi had said India and Pakistan should work together in Afghanistan. “But that was just loud thinking and there was no concrete proposal,” he said.
