BSNL get the better of ASC

State 'A' Division champions Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) got the better of Army Service Corps (ASC) 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 in the third phase of the inaugural Karnataka Volley League (KVL) at the Municipal grounds on Wednesday.

 BSNL have taken firm control of the third phase after the victory with 12 points from four matches while ASC remain on nine points from four games.

 Ravi Kumar, captain Maruthi G Nayak and Sujith starred for the second phase winners.
 Earlier, Madras Engineer Group (MEG) eked out a 22-25, 27-29, 25-20, 25-12, 16-14 victory over Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS). 

MEG, who have lost their first three matches, have two points from four games after the five-set victory. DYSS, having lost their three games so far, have one point from four matches after stretching the game to the decider. 

DYSS surprised the Sappers with their all-round game with Bharath and Suraj leading the way. MEG’s attempts to claw back into the match withered out as DYSS claimed the first and second sets 25-22, 29-27 respectively.   MEG fought back in the third set as libero Gavas, who came up with good retrievals, and Martin John, who delivered power-packed smashes, helped the Premjith-coached side to pocket the set 25-20 and make it 2-1. 

MEG took the fourth set 25-12 to level the scores 2-2 and took the encounter into decider. DYSS led 8-7 at the change of court but MEG pocketed the set 16-14 to record their first victory.

Results: MEG bt DYSS 22-25, 27-29, 25-20, 25-12, 16-14; BSNL bt ASC 25-20, 25-21, 25-23; LIC bt KSP 25-15, 25-17, 25-15.
