BSNL emerge champs

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited were crowned overall champions of the inaugural Karnataka Volley League (KVL) after they beat Army Service Corps (ASC) 25-17, 25-15, 25-21 at the Swami Vivekananda grounds here on Tuesday.

BSNL ended their campaign with 46 points from 20 matches to emerge winners while Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), who beat Karnataka State Police (KSP) 25-19, 25-17, 27-29, 25-20, came second with 42 points from 20 games on account of more wins. ASC settled for the third spot with 42 points from 20 matches.

BSNL took home overall prize money of Rs 50,000 while LIC got Rs 40,000, ASC were richer by Rs 30,000 and MEG got Rs 20,000.

Ravi Kumar and Maruthi G Nayak were the stars for BSNL along with Shravan, Karthik and Manjunath.

In the first match, Madras Engineer Group (MEG) beat Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) 25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 25-18 to end with 28 points off 20 matches and take the fourth spot.
