The 28-year-old male friend of the gang rape victim has identified the sixth accused in the test identification parade at Tihar jail on Wednesday, said a police officer.

The victim’s friend reached Tihar jail along with his advocate father around 2.30 pm. Police accompanied them for the process that began around 3.00 pm. He had to identify the accused among 11 persons, who were paraded before him.

Akshay, the last to be arrested in the case, underwent the TIP at jail number four; the male victim was able to recognise Singh almost immediately, police said.

A father of two, the accused had to go from state to state to seek work in a bid to escape being caught. Police nabbed him at his native village in Bihar’s Aurangabad district.
Police were able to form a description of how he looked based on his marriage album, and he was arrested while trying to enter Aurangabad from Madhya Pradesh.

“Akshay was the man who had cooked food for Ram Singh and other accused on December 16 evening, the day they brutally gang raped and tortured the 23-year-old girl,” said an officer.

Police said Akshay was the second person to have sexually assaulted the girl, and to have most-brutally assaulted her. He also had assisted Mukesh Singh, another accused, in trying to destroy evidence in the bus.
