The Udupi district Komu Sauharda Vedike members staged a protest before the SP Office over the FIR charged against Stella Maris Church (Kalmady) Parish Priest Fr Alban D’Souza.

Forwarding the memorandum to SP Dr Boralingaiah M B, Udupi district Komu Sauharda Vedike president Rajashekhar said that Bajarang Dal activists who made an illegal entry into the Church premises shouted slogans against Church and the parish priest.

They organised unlawful meeting in the premises of the Church and issued unethical statements against the parish priest.

The banner put up by the church to commemorate the silver jubilee celebrations had no
contents insulting the Hindus or Brahmins.

They also demanded for an apology from the Father which was totally an offensive demand, he added.

He alleged that the police have failed to bring the activists under control. He demanded that action should be taken against police who failed in performing their duties. Rajashekhar said that the FIR charged against the priest should be taken back immediately. He also condemned the lathi charge against CPI(M) activists who were protesting against the rituals “Made Snana” and “Pankthi Bedha”.

It is a breach of freedom of expression and thoughts. He also demanded action against the police involved in lathi charging the activists.

SP Boralingaiah told Deccan Herald that FIR is filed against the incident and preliminary investigation is done. A compliant is registered and it is not against the priest. Investigation is done over the incident, he added.
