NREGS panel alleges irregularities, warns protest

The Committee has warned of taking out an indefinite protest outside the Zilla Panchayat office From October 21, if this and its other demands are not met.

Members of the Committee, who submitted a petition to Ranga Rao on Monday, alleged, “Officials should make surprise visits to the spots where contract works are going on, and check the labourers’ attendance and job cards. Action should be taken against officials in Uruguli, Totli, Toredevandahalli, Sugatur and Vadagur Panchayat limits, who have not paid labourers their dues,” they said.

Some of the other demands of the committee are: Clearing the encroachments of lakes and graveyards; planting of saplings and clearing of encroachments on the road leading from Hollamballi to Holali-Mysore.

“The Central government has increased the wages of labourers by Rs 100. This should be implemented in the State immediately. The wages earned by each labourer should be paid every week, and each family should get 200 days’ work annually. Those who work on hard soil should be paid Rs 140,” the committee members urged, in a press release.
