'Shift high tension power line'

Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Pooja Samithi of Sree Ayyappa Swamy Temple at the foot of Chamundi Hill in the city is wary of taking up development works, for the high-tension wire passing through the temple complex.

Addressing media in the city on Wednesday, president of the samithi Mamballi K Papegowda alleged that their repeated pleas to authorities concerned including medical education and district in-charge minister S A Ramdas has fallen on deaf ears.

The temple has been built on about two-and-a-half acres of land donated by Boraiah Basavaiah and Sons. The line that existed since the inception of the temple has to be shifted with the increasing number of devotees visiting the temple.

The samithi is dithering to take out the works of building the mantapa, waiting for the line to be shifted. Papegowda said that there is provision for alternate route to shift the line. Plans are also on the anvil to build a kalyani (pond) on the temple premises. He said he will apprise Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company (Cesc) Limited again.

The 53rd annual pooja mahotsava of the temple is on December 15 and 16. On the first day, a procession of the idol of Ayyappa Swamy will be taken out  at 4 pm. Dineshan Namboodaripad will grace the occasion, he added.
