At a time when RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is coming up with different explanations on the Delhi gang-rape incident, veteran BJP leader L K Advani on Sunday came up with a practical suggestion when he said that governments should lay stress on women empowerment through education and healthcare facilities.

Speaking at the annual conference of the Delhi Medical Association, the former deputy prime minister said all state governments should offer education and healthcare facilities to girls on a par with those offered to boys.

“After the horrendous incident, when the focus is on issues related to women and girls, entire concentration should be on their education and health. All governments concerned should ensure that girls are well educated. We have to see that they don’t dropout,” Advani said.

Appreciating efforts made by BJP-ruled states, he remarked: “They (girls) should get the same opportunity as boys. I am happy with the BJP chief ministers’ efforts in this direction to ensure that literacy and education is maximum among girls.”

The veteran leader used the opportunity to urge doctors and medical practitioners to provide best healthcare to women.
